"You will never find time for anything. If you want time you must make it." Charles Buxton Those of us who grew up baby boomers can relate to the following- 1970: Long hair was in. 2002: Longing for hair is in. 1970: Acid rock was in. 2002: Acid Reflex is in. 1970: Passing your driving test was in. 2002: Passing your vision test is in. Is Your Basket Empty? Many years ago, an Indian princess was called to the tepee of her father, the Chief. She put on her finest dress, combed her hair, and made her way to the tepee. The Chief looked at her and said, "My daughter, today is your birthday, today you become a woman. Your first duty as a woman of the tribe will be to go out and select the finest field of corn, then select the finest row in that field and then go down the row selecting only the finest ears of corn and fill your basket. Remember, daughter that once you have passed an ear of corn you may not go back again." So the princess made her way to the corn fields where she selected the finest field of corn.....picking the best row she could. Then she stated down the row feeling the ears as she went. She felt one ear that was too hard, the next was too soft, the next irregular, and the next too small and so on down the row. To her amazement she soon found herself at the end of the row and her basket was still empty. Many of us go through life ignoring the great opportunities of today. We find things wrong with living this very minute, this very day. We spend most of our time waiting for something good to happen in the future, putting off living today, putting off happiness. It's so easy to forget that this is life. Life is what is happening to you as you make other plans! We have a tendency to look for the "bad" and "wrong" in people and things. We are only hurting ourselves when we do this. Make it a habit right now to look for the good in everyone and everything. Let's create happiness for others without expecting anything in return. Yes, we'll be much happier, but just don't do and say things for a selfish reason. Make happiness for others just for the inner joy it can bring them. Our happiness will take care of itself. If we look for the good and create happiness for others as well as ourselves, we'll never reach the end of a day, week, or life with an "Empty Basket". The Women's Basketball program at Valdosta State University could use your help. They are putting together a cookbook to sell as a fundraiser. If you have a recipe that you really enjoy, they would love to add it to their cookbook. You can email your recipes to either: khill@valdosta.edu or jshead@valdosta.edu. I am thanking you in advance for helping this very worthwhile cause. Tom
